Monsoon Season! Not many "other" places would enjoy cloud cover this much, but for us it just filters the sunlight and keeps things cool. The forecast said a 60% chance of rain so I decided to take advantage of the cooler temps and just stay in town. I left a little after noontime and decided to run up to the top of Missionary Ridge. My plan was to run all the way to Stevens like I did back in June - but once up on the ridge my plan was thwarted when I ran into a mom bear and cub.
The cub ran up a tree and mom bear stood right up and faced me. This is the 3rd time I've had a bear take a defensive posture on me and needless to say I decided to backtrack.
So I ran back into town, fueled up at a gas station and decided to run up Animas Peak. Two big ascents in one day!
On the way back down, I ran by Durango Brewing Company and decided I'd rather have a beer than run the ~20-minutes to get back home.
A text message to Jeni and Jia Li and soon they joined me. Awesome 23-mile run and one great way to end it!
Jia Li tried her best to pick up the ticket but she couldn't find her credit card.
